Professional Career
Scott Sorrel was appointed Peoria County Administrator in May 2015. Prior to becoming Administrator, Scott served as Assistant County Administrator for Infrastructure, with oversight of 78.6 FTEs in facilities and grounds operations, planning and zoning, highway and fleet management, and sustainability and resource conservation. Scott started with the County as an Associate Planner in the Planning and Zoning Department in October 1993.
Since his hire, Scott's professional career at Peoria County has included serving as Deputy Director of Planning and Zoning for five years and as Assistant to the County Administrator for nine years before his most recent Assistant County Administrator position, where he served for three years. Scott has also served as Interim Budget Director, Chief Financial Officer, Information Technology Services Director, and County Administrator during extended absences for each of these top management positions.
Education
Scott earned his Master of Public Administration from the University of Nebraska - Omaha in 2017. He graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Community and Regional Planning in 1993, with a minor in English.
Membership
Scott is currently on the Board of Directors for the National Association of County Administrators. He has been a member of the Illinois Association of County Administrators since 2003, serving as an officer for many of those years, including as President from 2007 to 2009. He has also been a member of the Illinois Association of Municipal Management Assistants for the same period, serving on the Board of Directors since 2009 and as President from 2013 to 2014. He was named Outstanding Manager of the Year for 2006 to 2007 by this association. He is also a member of the International City/County Management Association.
Community Involvement
Scott is very involved in the Heart of Illinois United Way. Since 2008, he has been a member of the Pillars Society, has served on the Children and Youth Allocation Committee, and was on the Board of Directors from 2014-2017. Scott is a charter member of the Campaign for a Walkable West Bluff, is on the Peoria Public School District 150 Foundation Golf Outing Committee, and coaches soccer for the Peoria Soccer Club. He is married to Karen and they have two children, Andy and Nolan.
