Mom Pleads to Son’s Murder

December 7, 2023, Peoria, IL – Today, Stephanie L. Jones, 37, pled guilty to one count of First Degree Murder in the death of her eight-year-old son, Navin Jones.  State’s Attorney, Jodi Hoos, handled the plea and made the following statements:

“Some cases are just too indescribable for words, and this is one of them.”

“At her sentencing I will seek a prison sentence that ensures every single breath she ever draws for the rest of her life will be done from the cold, dark cell of an Illinois prison.”

“There’s value in the day that a mother shamefully admits to the world the truth about herself and what she did; and Navin Jones so deserves this day from his mother.”

“This defendant is pleading guilty today to being the calloused child murderer that she is.  No trial is now needed no appeal will follow.”

Jones is eligible for a sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections between 20 and 100 years. Her sentencing is scheduled for February 7, 2024, at 1:15 p.m.
