Throughout this week and next, the Peoria County Highway Department will sealcoat various County roads, conditions permitting. This essential maintenance procedure aims to protect and extend the life of road surfaces, ensuring safer and smoother travel experiences for residents and visitors. Motorists can expect fresh oil and loose gravel on these roads; please seek an alternate route if possible.
The following roads are scheduled for sealcoating:
- Wasson Road (Between Stone School Road and Down School Road)
- Down School Road (Between IL 116 and Wasson Road)
- Trivoli Road (Between IL 116 and Smithville Road)
- Martin Weber Road (Between Smithville Road and Todd School Road)
- Todd School Road (Between Trivoli Road and Hanna City Glasford Road)
To ensure the safety of all road users, we kindly request drivers to exercise extreme caution and follow these safety measures when driving through sealcoat road zones:
- Reduce Speed: Slow down to improve traction and maintain control on the potentially slippery surface.
- Increase Following Distance: Allow sufficient space between vehicles to ensure ample braking distance.
- Avoid Sudden Maneuvers: Steer, accelerate, and brake gently to avoid losing control on the road.
- Adhere to Posted Signs: Pay close attention to any posted signs, flaggers, or construction crews, who will provide important guidance and directions.
- Exercise Patience: Be patient during the curing period, as it may take some time for the sealcoat to fully set and become effective in protecting the road surface.
