The public is invited to join Peoria County’s GIS Department as they celebrate GIS Day on Wednesday, November 16 from 1-4 pm at the Peoria County Courthouse. GIS, which stands for geographic information system, has its roots in geography and is a framework for gathering, organizing, and interpreting data.
“GIS helps people access data in a meaningful way,” said GIS Manager Joshua Thompson. “Our popular Front Desk Application shows detailed property information, but we have a whole host of dashboards that pull together community data. These range from opioids in our region, historical monuments in Peoria County, crime mapping, election redistricting, and more.”
At GIS Day, staff will be on hand to demonstrate the use of the Front Desk and Equity applications and answer questions. Plus, there will be a guessing game and map activity with prizes. The event will take place in the Peoria County Courthouse in IT Training Room G10.
