Heather L. McCord Named Peoria County Chief Financial Officer

Peoria County Administrator Scott Sorrel is pleased to name Heather L. McCord as Peoria County’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO). She will start on January 10, 2022. 

As CFO, Ms. McCord’s duties include managing the County’s financial affairs through leading the Finance Department, which is responsible for accounting, payroll administration, debt management, budget preparation, long-term planning and forecasting, procurement, and preparation of annual financial statements. The CFO is a member of senior leadership and integral in developing policy recommendations to present to the Peoria County Board.

Since 2013, Ms. McCord has been the Assistant Dean for Budget and Administration for Bradley University’s Foster College of Business, in which she managed all the college’s financial accounting and reporting functions and was responsible for financial and operational strategic leadership. She served on the dean’s senior leadership team, setting strategic direction on priorities, resources, and staff. Ms. McCord coordinated and led the transition of employees and building contents for the college to temporary space prior to its building demolition, and then she created an implementation plan that contributed to the successful move of 200+ individuals, technology, and furniture into the new Business and Engineering Convergence Center.

Prior to her time at Bradley University, Ms. McCord worked at Illinois Central College as the Manager of Student Accounting as well as multiple local businesses in accounting and managerial roles. In addition, her work as an independent consultant assisted small businesses with best practices in accounting, developing business plans, identifying inefficiencies as well as growth opportunities, and implementing internal controls. 

Ms. McCord has a bachelor’s degree in International Business and a master’s degree in Business Administration. She is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and is Certified in Strategy and Competitive Analysis (CSCA) through the Institute of Management Accountants.

“Ms. McCord has an extensive background in not only finance and accounting, but management, human resources, and process improvement,” said Scott Sorrel, Peoria County Administrator. “I look forward to having her on Peoria County’s senior leadership team and working together to move our organization forward.”

Ms. McCord is an active member of the Central Illinois community. She is the current board treasurer of the Greater Peoria Sanitary District, and for the past four years she served on the board for Peoria Academy, where she was extensively involved in planning, fundraising, and enrollment. Previously, she served on the Peoria Ballet and United Stroke Alliance boards, was president and co-founder of Impact Peoria, chaired the Community Foundation of Central Illinois’ Emerging Philanthropists’ Fund, and was a Young Leader’s Cabinet Member for the American Red Cross. 

Ms. McCord has resided in Peoria since 1997 when she moved here from a rural community to attend Bradley University. She and her husband, Scott, enjoy spending time with their daughter and son and attending the many activities in which they participate.
