David C. Barker will be the guest speaker at the American Mausoleum's Memorial Day service on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 10:30 a.m.
Staff Sergeant Barker enlisted as a Private First Class in 1996 and became a combat medic paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. He subsequently cross-trained as a Psychological Operations tactical team leader within the Special Operations Community of the U.S. Army. While in that capacity, he was deployed to Iraq in 2005 to support Operation Iraqi Freedom where he led a three-man PSYOP team in southern Baghdad. During that deployment he was injured and medevacked home. After two years of enduring multiple surgeries and intensive physical therapy, he retired from the Army. Barker is passionate about the Army, proud of his military service to his country, and misses the adrenaline rush when jumping out of not-so perfect airplanes and helicopters.
David is currently employed as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Peoria County. He is married to Emily, a Psychiatric Nurse with the U.S. Army Reserve, and they have two children: Natalie (13) and Noah (10).
The American Legion Limestone Post #979 will present the Color Guard, Honor Guard, Taps, and 21-Gun Salute at the memorial service.
The American Mausoleum located at 7911 N. Allen Road, Peoria, Illinois will be open during the Memorial Day Holiday weekend, May 25-27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
