November 14, 2018 at 2 p.m.: Situation Awareness – A Life Safety Skill

Peoria Heights Public Library

Instructor: Captain Doug Gaa, Peoria County Sheriff’s Office

Simply stated, Situation Awareness is being more aware of your surroundings and having the ability to make safe, logical assessments based on what you notice. Often, we go about our day without paying much attention to the things around us. Situation Awareness is a developed skill that can make you more attuned to your environment, such as the people you are passing, the infrastructure you're near, and the objects around you. This allows a person to help recognize when something is "off," or poses a threat. We’ll walk through Situation Awareness as it applies to home, public places, suspicious behaviors or items and more.
