The Peoria County Veteran’s Memorial Committee is pleased to invite the public to the dedication ceremony of A Final Salute on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. on the Peoria County Courthouse Plaza.
Retired Lt. Colonel Hal Fritz will deliver the key note message. Col. Fritz was awarded the Medal of Honor during the Vietnam War. Local veterans, dignitaries, and members of the committee will also speak.
A Final Salute is the final war memorial addition to the courthouse plaza. This memorial shall honor thousands of Peoria County Veterans that served our nation since World War II as well as those that will serve in the future. In addition, this memorial has etched in granite the 233 names of the Peoria County Veterans that never returned home.
The memorial and statues accompanying it are meant to resemble soldiers returning to their field base. Two of the three statues are in place, with the third currently being created and placed at a later date.
For additional information or interviews, please contact the memorial committee chairman, Peoria County Clerk Steve Sonnemaker, at (309) 495-4638 or email@example.com.
